The North Sea Row

The North Sea Rowed

(View Atlantic Row 2008 Info)

The culmination of months of tough training. Three days and two nights at sea in a rowing boat, over 140 miles of unpredictable water.

Crew members Liam Hughes, Claire Hughes, Jim Starling, Gary Steward and Vicky Burroughs, landed at Southwold late on the afternoon of 10th July.

Team leader Dr Liam Hughes is a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (N&N). Despite his sixty-hour week treating and operating on acutely ill cardiac patients, on Tuesday 10th July 2007 he completed a gruelling physical challenge himself – a 140 mile row from the Hook of Holland to the seaside town of Southwold in Suffolk.

Liam commented: “I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of my patients and supporters since I first mentioned undertaking this challenge. As well as professional support from people with expertise in rowing and personal fitness, I have received a tremendous amount of moral support. It was the thought of all those well wishers which helped keep us going in the dead of night when the fatigue was setting in”
